GioiaARTS' Vision for Promoting Healthy Communities
MISSION ARTS IMPACT

INCUBATORS FOR PROBLEM SOLVERS
In developing societies, community art-making experiences play a vital role in fostering creativity, promoting social cohesion, and empowering individuals. Among these experiences, group-generated public murals and after-school art programs for youth hold immense potential for transforming economically fragile communities.
The compounding impact of art-making initiatives highlights their ability to enhance social development, foster cultural preservation, and empower individuals to become active participants in shaping their world. GioiaARTS' goal in working with youth served by missions is to build and support "incubators for creatives": youth who will become the future problem solvers for their communities.

LIFE BUILDING SKILLS
Sequential problem-solving modalities, including defining the issue, trial/error, visualization, working backward, critique/evaluation, listening to others' experiences, and applying past learning in a new way lie at the heart of art-making activities. Through collaborative art-making processes, the individual learns to communicate, collaborate, and respect different perspectives, fostering empathy and understanding. Community art-making projects, such as the GioiaARTS group-generated public murals and GioiaARTS' Saturday GioiaARTS Art Lab provide spaces for groups and youth to come together, fostering social development. These initiatives create a sense of belonging and facilitate social interaction, thereby breaking down barriers and promoting inclusivity. Group art-making projects are designed as intergenerational experiences focused on beautification to uplift the community and thereby act as a catalyst for future improvement projects. A mural project may also address social issues and challenges faced by a group as a way to drive consensus for social change or record and celebrate the achievements of the group. Public murals also have the power to address global and parochial topics like social injustice, environmental sustainability, or cultural heritage. By engaging in these activities, members become active agents of change, mobilizing collective efforts to address societal concerns.

PRESERVING
CULTURAL HERITAGE
The preservation of cultural heritage is an additional avenue of positive impact
art-making experiences bring to developing and marginalized areas and societies. Traditions and historical events can be recorded as visual stories and aid in maintaining identity and heritage. Community art-making activities enable the exploration, celebration, and preservation of cultural roots. Public murals are often designed to reflect local narratives or traditional customs. a mural can become a powerful visual representation of cultural heritage. Through these collective artistic endeavors, fading traditions can be revived, stories preserved, and cultural knowledge transmitted across generations.
After-school art programs specifically designed for youth offer a platform for exploring cultural diversity and promoting cross-cultural understanding. GioiaARTS believes by engaging in art-making activities inspired by various cultural traditions young participants develop a broader perspective, curiosity, and openness to intercultural encounters. The compounding impact of convening the community for an art-making project extends beyond individuals, as it contributes to the overall well-being and development of the group or community.

EMPOWERING INDIVIDUALS
Creativity is inherent in our human makeup. When creativity is channeled through the Visual Arts the creative process allows for the fabrication of our ideas and thoughts of the imagination into being. The imagination of the individual becomes a physical visual language that can be shared and understood. Empowering youth to express their voice in the visual language of Art can have the multi-layered benefit of being therapeutic and self-affirming.
It is through the creative process individuals have one way to develop self-confidence, self-expression, and problem-solving skills. This process of meeting the challenge of a visual arts activity can have a transformative effect on individuals. GioiaARTS' focus is to nurture creativity and critical thinking in a space and with materials to express their ideas, aspirations, and concerns.

The GioiaARTS art-making activities serve as platforms for personal growth and skill development. Youth engaged in this after-school visual arts program can develop technical skills in various art forms, including painting, sculpture, printmaking, and crafts. The confidence and personal growth developed through problem-solving and the mastery of new materials and skills transfer to other life-building goals and thereby have the possibility to be amplified in the community as a whole.

THE CREATOR AND
THE ARTIST
GioiaARTS strives to nurture the wellspring of imagination and creativity gifted to all members of the human family by God, in whose image we are made. Intentional emphasis on self-reflection, gratitude, constructive critique, community prayer time, and working toward solutions in a joyful spirit of respect and cooperation is the hallmark of each art-making session. We also emphasize looking for beauty all around in the natural world. GioiaARTS initiatives are intended to enhance sensitivity and appreciation of Creation and the Creator. Our partnerships with Missions enable GioiaARTS to work hand-in-hand with Mission leaders to meet their goals of fostering the healthy development of the children, youth, and families in their care.
