Catholic Dispensary Waiting Room Facelift, SSV Mission, Ol Moran, Kenya

The Waiting Room Project took three days and many hands were willing to try decorative painting.   Guardians of the Visitation Missioners from the US with the SSV Sisters and youth and children of Magnificat House all took part.

2. Sourcing Materials

Paint colors were purchased in Nairobi from a paint store that could custom-mix colors. Sixteen liters of interior house paint in a variety of colors traveled the six hours from Nairobi to Ol Moran.

4. Mural of The Visitation

The tea room was a blank canvas just waiting for a larger, colorful design.  The Visitation was chosen as the subject because the catholic Dispensary is operated by the missionary congregation Sisters Servants of the Visitation whose Charism is rooted in the Second Joyful Mystery of the Rosary.

1. Clean and Tape

Taping off an original design on freshly cleaned walls was step one.  Each design framed the four large windows in the waiting room.  The designs took reference from African fabrics. The beautiful geometric patterns and bold colors that are part of African culture made a strong statement as window frames.

3. Many Helpers

Community art projects mean we convene the whole community to help to bring the designs to reality.  The first-time painters quickly learned how to handle the paint and artist brushes brought from the US....new GioiaARTISTS!!

5.Healing Through ART

The beautification of the waiting room has made the entrance to the Catholic Dispensary a more welcoming and cheerful space for the many patients and visitors who come each week seeking medical care.
